CHICAGO - A 16-year-old boy is in critical condition and a 34-year-old woman is recovering after a shooting in Chicago’s South Shore neighborhood Sunday morning. The shooting underscores the ongoing challenge of gun violence in the city, notably impacting young people and communities on the South Side.
Chicago police responded to the 6700 block of South Cregier Avenue around 10 a.m. following reports of a shooting. Preliminary investigations indicate that multiple individuals in a vehicle opened fire on the boy and woman as they were outside. The suspects then fled the scene.
The 16-year-old boy sustained three gunshot wounds to the body, while the woman suffered two gunshot wounds to her right leg. Both victims were transported to the University of Chicago Hospital for treatment.As of Sunday afternoon, the boy’s condition is listed as critical, and the woman is in fair condition.
Police have not released descriptions of the suspects or the vehicle involved and Area one detectives are investigating. No arrests have been made.
