Chicago crime: 6 shot, 1 fatally, on West Side, police say

CHICAGO – A shooting at a large gathering in the Austin neighborhood of Chicago early Sunday morning resulted in one fatality and injuries to five others.The incident occurred around 2:48 a.m. on N. La Crosse Avenue,prompting a large police response.

Details of the Shooting

Chicago Police Department officers arrived at the scene to find six victims suffering from gunshot wounds. The gathering,the nature of wich has not yet been disclosed,was reportedly sizable when the shooting erupted.

  • Fatal Victim: A 22-year-old woman was shot in the back and pronounced dead at Mt. Sinai Hospital. Her identity is currently being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
  • Injured Victims:
    • A 29-year-old woman sustained a gunshot wound to the right elbow and was transported to Rush Hospital in good condition.
    • A 29-year-old man suffered a gunshot wound to the right leg and was taken to Loretto Hospital, listed in critical condition.
    • An 18-year-old man was shot in the chest and left arm and is in critical condition at Stroger Hospital.
    • A 17-year-old boy was shot in the left thigh and is in critical condition at Mt. Sinai Hospital.

As of Sunday morning,no arrests have been made in connection with the shooting. Area detectives are actively investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident, including potential motives and identifying any suspects.
