Chery Tests Decade-Old Cars, Proving Safety Endurance
In a bold move, Chery put its older Tiggo series vehicles through extreme safety evaluations in China, demonstrating that designs from over ten years ago can still perform under pressure. These tests aimed to highlight the enduring safety features built into their older models.
Extreme Safety Tests
A series of extreme safety tests were conducted on the Chery Tiggo Family models, some over a decade old. These vehicles underwent a 40% Overlap Deformable Barrier safety test. The speed was 64 km/hour. The results indicated minimal deformation in pillars A, B, and C, with the passenger cabin remaining intact. All four doors remained operational after the impact.
The full-width rigid barrier crash test, performed at 50 km/h, showed the airbag system in the older Tiggo model working perfectly. This feature ensured optimal protection for the mannequins inside the vehicle.
“The automotive industry requires not only qualified technical expertise but also a strong moral commitment. The quality of safety in a vehicle is often determined by details that may not be seen in plain view. With the vision of ‘Safety without compromise, now for all’, Chery wants to ensure that every vehicle that we produce from generation to generation, is able to provide optimal protection both in daily use or In an unexpected accident scenario. This is Chery’s promise to bring security for every family,”
—Yin Tongyue, Chairman of Chery Holding Group
These vehicles were mass-production units, without modification, which proved that Chery’s safety tech is built to endure. Studies show that older vehicles often have higher rates of fatalities in accidents. (NHTSA 2023)
