Chemical Accident: Gas Cloud Spreads to Aschaffenburg

Gas Cloud‌ Prompts Evacuations in Aschaffenburg Following Chemical Accident

Aschaffenburg, Germany ‍ – A chemical accident in Mainaschaff⁤ triggered⁢ the release of a yellow gas cloud ⁣that ‌moved toward the urban area of⁤ Aschaffenburg, prompting authorities to order residents in ⁢northern areas to shelter in place⁤ and avoid outdoor activity. The all-clear was given late Tuesday night after ⁤measurements were deemed harmless, according to community officials.

The incident, ‍which ​unfolded Tuesday, led to a‌ large-scale emergency response involving approximately 250 ‍firefighters⁢ and other emergency personnel. Affected areas initially included the Aschaffenburg districts of Damm, Austrian colony, regrettably and Strietwald, as well as parts of ⁤Mainaschaff. ⁣Later,⁣ the all-clear extended to Nilkheim, Schweinheim, obernau, Gailbach, and the city center.Residents were advised to remain indoors, close windows, and switch off ventilation and air‌ conditioning systems. The ⁢Federal Office for Population‍ Protection and Disaster aid also issued a warning message.

Authorities initially urged citizens to take in anyone endangered and heed announcements from police and fire brigades. The source of the gas cloud was traced ​back to​ an industrial company in ‍Mainaschaff.
