Chelsea Crowned Club World Champions as Trump Claims Original Trophy
Chelsea secured victory in the inaugural expanded Club World cup, defeating Paris Saint-Germain 3-0 in the final at MetLife Stadium.Cole Palmer scored twice, and new signing Joao Pedro added a third, earning Chelsea the title of world champions for four years and a reported £80 million in prize money.
However,the original Club World Cup trophy is set to remain in the United States,according to President Donald Trump,who attended the match. Trump, speaking to DAZN, revealed that FIFA President Gianni Infantino had entrusted him with the original trophy, stating it would remain in the oval Office indefinitely.
“We put it in the Oval Office and then I said: ‘When are you going to pick up the trophy’, and [Infantino] said: ‘We’re never going to pick it up, you can have it forever in the Oval Office’,” Trump explained. He added that while Chelsea received a new trophy, the original is currently in the Oval Office.
This development follows FIFA’s decision to open an office in Trump Tower in New York ahead of the 2026 World Cup, which the US will co-host with Canada and Mexico.
