CGI Montreal Releases First-Ever Live Kumzing Music Video for Standing Side by Side
Camp Gan Israel Montreal united more than 400 campers and counselors this past summer for its first-ever live Kumzing, producing a professional recording and music video of the camp classic “Standing Side by Side.” In what is described as a first for CGI camps around the world, the production departed from traditional studio settings to capture the live energy and emotion of hundreds of voices singing together, an atmosphere regularly forged around the Shabbos table, during BOG War, and at Color War.
From Color War Alma Mater to Global Camp Classic
The song chosen for the debut release was originally written as a Color War alma mater in the summer of 5756 (1996). Over the thirty years since its creation, it has grown into a beloved classic across Gan Yisroel camps globally. The narrative of “Standing Side by Side” follows a counselor and a camper at the conclusion of the summer, each offering personal reflections and messages addressed to the Rebbe.
The staff member reflects on his shlichus and responsibility to guide the children entrusted to him, while the camper expresses gratitude for the warmth, dedication, and friendship shown by his counselor. The storyline culminates when the two individuals, initially unaware that they are standing near one another at the Ohel, recognize each other and embrace.
Release and Availability Across Platforms
By bringing together more than 400 campers and staff to perform the piece, the live Kumzing aims to preserve the profound influence of Gan Yisroel and the relationships formed during the summer months. The resulting music video and audio recording translate those campgrounds moments into a multimedia format for broader audiences.
The finished production has been made available to the public across multiple digital platforms. Viewers and listeners can access the new release on YouTube, Spotify, and 24Six.
