MTV Cancels ‘Catfish‘ After Nine Seasons
MTV has canceled Catfish, the long-running reality series hosted by Nev Schulman, Variety first reported. The show, which premiered in 2012, will not be returning for a tenth season, though reruns will continue to air on the cable channel owned by Paramount Skydance.
The cancellation arrives amid significant restructuring following the official closing of the Paramount Skydance merger in August, a move expected to trigger further content shifts and staff reductions. Catfish concluded its ninth and final season last summer, after being renewed for its Tuesday night timeslot in January 2024 based on solid cable ratings.
Catfish followed individuals who suspected they were being deceived by someone they met online, with Schulman and, until recently, Kamie Crawford, investigating the authenticity of thes digital relationships. The format often culminated in a meeting between the hopeful and the “catfish.” Crawford announced her departure from the series in October 2024 after six years, following the 2018 exit of original co-host Max Joseph.
The series proved highly accomplished for MTV,spawning two short-lived spinoffs and numerous international editions in countries including colombia, chile,Brazil,Mexico and the U.K. A podcast, Catfish: The Podcast, was also launched jointly by Wondery and MTV in 2020, running for two seasons.
Notably,Schulman recently obtained his real estate license and announced plans to assist individuals with property transactions in New York.
