Carmel, indiana – Carmel Clay High School’s Aquatic Center concluded a successful run as host of the World Swimming Cup on Sunday, October 12, drawing international athletes adn fans to central Indiana.months of preparation culminated in a week of competition showcasing top swimmers from around the globe.
The event attracted media and supporters from numerous countries,including Ruri Lee and her mother,Nayeon Jo,who recently relocated to Dayton,Ohio from Brisbane,Australia. Lee, a swimmer herself, expressed excitement at seeing Australian stars compete, specifically mentioning Samuel Short, who won the men’s 1500 freestyle and placed second in the 400 freestyle, and kaylee McKeown, who won the women’s 200 backstroke in 1 minute, 58.86 seconds.
“I think it’s just amazing seeing all those girls race internationally,” Lee said. “It really inspires me to go race again myself and push myself again in training.” Lee plans to compete at the Carmel pool in the coming weeks, viewing her attendance at the World Swimming Cup as valuable preparation.
Planning for the event began in February, with weekly meetings led by CHS athletics and activities director Jim Inskeep. The logistical planning intensified throughout the summer and fall, focusing on timelines for equipment arrival and task completion.
Inskeep credited strong collaboration between the City of Carmel, Hamilton County Sports Authority, Carmel Clay School District, World Aquatics, and Dek Technologies for the event’s success. he anticipates future large-scale swimming competitions at the Aquatic Center, stating, “We certainly no it probably won’t be our last go-round with hosting some big meets here.”
