Altdorf, Uri – A new national vaccination week will launch in the Canton of Uri in 2025, offering low-threshold vaccinations against influenza, COVID-19, and Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV) at medical practices and pharmacies. Replacing the previous National Flu Day,the initiative aims too boost vaccination rates among at-risk populations and reduce hospitalizations.
The vaccination campaign specifically targets older adults, individuals with chronic illnesses, pregnant women, and premature babies under two years old, who are notably vulnerable to respiratory viruses during the winter months. Vaccination is also recommended for close contacts of these groups, including family members, childcare providers, and healthcare professionals.
“Vaccination in autumn is the best protection against severe respiratory infections in winter,” stated Dr. Jürg Bollhalder, Cantonal Doctor of Uri. “The national vaccination week offers a good opportunity to be vaccinated easily and protect yourself and endangered people.”
Residents of Uri can receive vaccinations spontaneously at their doctor’s office or at the Amavita pharmacy in Altdorf during the vaccination week.
The National Flu Day was initially launched in 2004 by the College for Family medicine (KHM) and, as 2018, has been a collaborative effort with the Federal Office of Public Health (BAG), the FMH, and Pharmasuisse. The expanded National Vaccination Week, beginning in 2025, builds upon this foundation.
Individuals can assess their need for a flu vaccination by completing the “Grippeimpfcheck” (Flu Vaccination Check) available at https://www.impfen-schweiz.ch/de/grippeimpfcheck.
