Canada to Receive $1.75 Billion in US High Mobility Artillery Systems

U.S. Approves $1.75 Billion⁤ HIMARS sale to Canada

WASHINGTON D.C. – The United ⁤States Department of defense has authorized the sale of High Mobility artillery rocket Systems (HIMARS) and related equipment to Canada for ​an estimated ⁤$1.75 billion, the Defense ‌Security Cooperation Agency⁢ (DSCA)​ announced ‍today.The deal will‌ significantly bolster Canada’s long-range precision strike capabilities.

The proposed sale ⁢includes ⁣the M142 HIMARS launch systems,‌ alongside ‌ammunition, support ⁤vehicles, ⁤and associated training and logistical ​support.⁢ This acquisition is intended to enhance⁢ Canada’s ability to address⁣ evolving security threats, contributing to ⁣both hemispheric defense and NATO’s deterrence efforts in Europe. According to the DSCA, Canada anticipates no difficulty integrating the systems into its Armed‌ Forces.

The ⁢DSCA stated ‍that the HIMARS sale​ “will improve Canada’s ability to deal‌ with current and future threats… This capacity will provide protection to ‍Canada by strengthening its contribution ⁤to the ⁣hemispheric collective defense and the defense and deterrence in‌ Europe, ‍according⁢ to⁢ NATO defense plans.” The systems⁢ are expected to provide a crucial capability ⁤for long-range precision attacks.⁣

The declaration comes as several ‍nations are increasing defense spending and modernizing their⁣ military arsenals in response to geopolitical instability. The⁣ sale requires Congressional approval, but is‌ expected ⁣to proceed ‌without issue.
