At least nine people are dead, including the shooter, following a series of shootings in Tumbler Ridge, a small town in northeastern British Columbia, Canada. The shootings occurred at a high school and a nearby residence on Wednesday, February 11, 2026.
Six of the victims were found at the high school, according to the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP). A seventh victim died en route to a hospital. Two additional victims were discovered at a home within the community. Authorities have not yet released details about the identities of the victims.
The shooter, identified as a woman with brown hair who was reportedly wearing a dress, died by suicide, police confirmed. A description of the shooter was circulated shortly after the incident.
Tumbler Ridge Secondary School, which has approximately 175 students, will remain closed for the remainder of the week. All elementary schools in the municipality will likewise be closed. The closures are intended to allow the community to grieve and for authorities to continue their investigation.
British Columbia Premier David Eby expressed his condolences, stating that the province will provide support to the community in the coming days as they cope with the “unimaginable tragedy.”
The RCMP has not released information regarding a potential motive for the shootings. The investigation is ongoing.
Reports indicate that at least ten people have died in the shootings, including the suspect, according to multiple news outlets. However, official confirmation from the RCMP remains at nine fatalities plus the shooter.
A press conference is scheduled to be held later Wednesday evening by Premier Eby to provide further updates.
