Manchester United’s pursuit of Brentford attacker Bryan Mbeumo is encountering significant obstacles, with the clubs reportedly still millions apart in their valuation. Weeks have passed since a move to Old Trafford seemed likely, and United’s delay could prove costly.

In a twist that could derail United’s plans, rivals Newcastle United are reportedly eyeing Mbeumo‘s teammate, Yoane Wissa. This interest stems from Newcastle’s need to strengthen their attack after missing out on target Hugo Ekitike.

Brentford’s ‘No Sale’ Stance on Attacking Pair
However, Brentford is understood to be firmly against selling both Mbeumo and Wissa in the same transfer window. Should Newcastle succeed in their bid for Wissa, the Bees are expected to block any departure for Mbeumo, leaving United empty-handed.
£50m Valuation for Wissa Amidst Impressive Form
Wissa, who netted 19 Premier League goals last season, is valued by Brentford at over £50 million. Notably, when excluding penalties, only Mohamed Salah scored more non-penalty goals in the top flight than the 28-year-old last term.
United’s Transfer Stalling and Squad Overhaul
Manchester United, who have already secured the signing of Matheus Cunha for £62.5 million, are reportedly unwilling to exceed £65 million for Mbeumo. Brentford, however, holds leverage with a contract extension option until 2027, allowing them to stand firm on their £70 million asking price.
Mbeumo has reportedly agreed personal terms with United, but the transfer remains contingent on a fee agreement. The club faces pressure to offload several high earners deemed surplus by new manager Ruben Amorim, including Marcus Rashford, Alejandro Garnacho, Antony, Jadon Sancho, and Tyrell Malacia, who are all training separately from the main squad.
