Mathias Hille Nets Two Goals as Brown Men’s Soccer Defeats Princeton 3-2

Mathias Hille scored twice to lift the Brown men’s soccer team to a 3-2 victory over the Princeton Tigers on Saturday night in Providence. The win marks Brown’s first conference victory of the season and its first head-to-head win against Princeton since 2017.

The match opened with aggressive action as Brown earned a penalty kick just 33 seconds into the contest after Princeton’s Lucas Ferreira fouled Mateo Pereyra near the box, according to the report. Hille converted the early penalty kick to put the Bears ahead. Five minutes into the match, Brown substituted Max Pfaffman into goal following an injury.

Princeton found the equalizer after Frederik Sadjak sent a shot toward the net that was stopped by Sergio Canos Seneci, allowing Jonah Mwilambwe to score on the rebound. Brown reclaimed the lead in the 22nd minute when Alex Sauerbrei passed to Ethan Rabel, who shot past Tigers goalkeeper Andrew Samuels for his second goal of the season. Brown held a 10-6 advantage in shots through a first half that ended with the Bears ahead 2-1.

Out of the halftime break, Princeton leveled the score at two apiece in the 60th minute when Tyler Austin capitalized on a defensive miscommunication. The score remained deadlocked until seven minutes remaining in regulation. Carlo Brown drove the ball into the box and fed Hille, who fired past Samuels for the go-ahead goal.

Brown finished the evening with 21 total shots, landing 11 on target, while Princeton recorded six shots with three on target. Goalkeeper Max Pfaffman stopped two shots to secure the win, while Samuels tallied eight saves for the Tigers.

Upcoming Match at Holy Cross

Following Saturday’s result, Brown moves to a 6-5-2 overall record and a 1-3-1 mark in Ivy League play, while Princeton sits at 6-4-4 overall and 1-3-1 in conference action. The Bears conclude their non-conference schedule on Tuesday, Oct. 27, traveling to face Holy Cross at 7 p.m. at Linda Johnson Smith Soccer Stadium.
