British Tourist Dies After Balcony Fall in Malta
Tragic incident occurred in popular St. Julian’s resort area
A 25-year-old British tourist tragically died after falling from a hotel balcony in St Julian’s, Malta. Police were called to the scene early Friday morning, where they discovered the man’s body. Emergency services pronounced him dead at the location.
Details of the Incident
Preliminary investigations suggest the man, from Gwynedd, northern Wales, fell from his balcony around 4:15 a.m. The incident occurred at the Cavalieri Art Hotel, according to Times of Malta. The road outside the hotel was briefly closed as authorities investigated.
While the investigation continues, the hotel resumed normal operations by 9 a.m. In similar incidents, alcohol consumption has been a factor in approximately 40% of accidental falls from heights, according to a recent study by the National Institutes of Health (2021).
Political Reactions
Sian Gwenllian, Welsh MP representing Arfon, called the death “truly devastating.”
She added, “The pain his family must be experiencing is unimaginable. My thoughts, and those of the people of Gwynedd, are with them in their grief.”
Liz Saville Roberts, MP for Dwyfor Meirionnydd, also expressed her condolences: “Heartbreaking news. My heart goes out to the young man’s family at this extremely difficult time.”
