Brilliant labs, a company known for its open-source AI hardware, has introduced its latest innovation: the Halo smart glasses. Following the success of their previous Frame model, the new $299 AI-powered glasses are designed to push the boundaries of what smart eyewear can do.
The Halo boasts several groundbreaking features, including an AI agent capable of remembering personal experiences, creating applications through voice commands, and offering extended battery life.
A key innovation is the “Narrative” system, a patent-pending “agentic memory system” that functions as an extension of the user’s memory. Utilizing the Halo’s camera and microphone, the Noa AI agent analyzes daily interactions, such as people met and conversations held, to construct a private and personalized knowledge base. This system aims to allow users to recall life details simply by asking.
Another significant advancement is “Vibe Mode,” which enables users to generate custom applications for the glasses using natural language. Instead of relying on an app store, users can instruct Noa with commands like “build me a maps app that shows me the next three turns.” These custom applications, or “vibes,” can then be shared and modified by the community, fostering a new open-source ecosystem for wearable technology.
The Halo maintains the discreet, lightweight design of its predecessor, weighing just over 40 grams. Despite its slim profile, the device incorporates a full-color microOLED display, bone conduction speakers, and a variety of sensors. It is indeed powered by an Alif Semiconductor B1 chip and a new AI/ML microcontroller, which Brilliant Labs states contributes to an impressive battery life of up to 14 hours on a single charge.
From Wareable’s outlook,Brilliant Labs is establishing a distinct and appealing position in the smart glasses market. While larger companies often focus on proprietary ecosystems, Brilliant Labs is committed to its open-source, privacy-centric approach, a philosophy previously discussed with founder Bobak Tavanger.
While the earlier Frame model served as an exciting proof-of-concept for developers, the Halo, with its conventional design, all-day battery, and innovative software, appears to be Brilliant Labs’ first product aimed at keen early adopters.
The Halo will be available in Matte Black for $299, with pre-orders commencing today on the Brilliant Labs website. Global shipping is scheduled to begin in late November 2025 as a limited release. Prescription lenses will be offered through a partnership with SmartBuyGlasses.
