Boxing: Takami Wins, Teraji Loses in Yokohama Title Fight

In a thrilling boxing event held at Yokohama Buntai on July 30, 2025, Japanese boxer Kenshiro Teraji faced off against U.S. fighter Ricardo Sandoval in a WBA and WBC flyweight unification bout. despite knocking Sandoval down in the fifth round, Teraji ultimately lost the fight on two of the three scorecards after a strong comeback from the 26-year-old American. The bout concluded after 12 rounds,with Sandoval securing the victory.

Teraji, aged 33, now holds a record of 25 wins, with 16 knockouts, and 2 losses. Sandoval’s record improved to 27 wins, including 18 by knockout, and 2 losses.

In another high-stakes match, Japan’s Daigo Higa, 29, challenged U.S. boxer Antonio Vargas for the WBA bantamweight world title. Higa managed to knock Vargas down in the fourth round of their 12-round contest. However, the fight ended in a draw, with all three judges scoring it even. Vargas appeared to retain his title by scoring a knockdown in the final round.

Following this bout, Higa, originally from Okinawa, now has a professional record of 21 wins, 3 draws, and 3 losses, with 19 of his victories coming by knockout.
