Emergency Services Respond to Maritime Incident

A significant collision between a sailboat and a motorboat has occurred off the coast of Filtvet lighthouse in Asker municipality, Norway. The incident, which involved a loud impact, prompted an immediate response from emergency services.

Rescue Efforts Underway

The Oslo Police District confirmed the incident early Tuesday morning, stating that both vessels involved are reportedly still afloat. Civilian boats were also on the scene to provide assistance while the Coast Guard and rescue units arrived to coordinate the operation.

Vidar Pedersen, operations manager for the Oslo Police District, described the event: “Two boats have collided at Filtvet lighthouse in Asker municipality. It is described as a strong bang and the emergency services are on their way to the site.”

Eivind Bø from The main rescue center confirmed that three individuals were aboard the involved vessels – two on the sailboat and one in the motorboat. “The motor boat should be on the sailboat. The first message from the site indicates that the three people who have been involved in the accident have been good,” Pedersen told VG at 09:37.

Initial reports suggested the sailboat was taking on some water, but no injuries have been officially reported among those involved.

Witness Account

A family vacationing nearby witnessed the aftermath. “We saw a motor boat that was over a sailboat. The mast was overboard and the sails were also gone,” recounted a witness to VG.

According to the Norwegian Maritime Authority, there were 1,160 reported maritime accidents in 2023, with collisions accounting for a notable portion of these incidents.
