BMW ‍XM Crowned ‌World’s Best-Selling “Über SUV”‍ despite Controversial‍ Design

Munich, Germany – The BMW XM, a⁢ model ‍often met ⁢with criticism, led‌ the global market in sales for high-performance, luxury SUVs in 2023, according to ‌data ‍from Jato Dynamics. A total⁢ of 8,100 units were sold, representing ⁤a 14% year-over-year increase. This surprising success comes despite a price point of around 5 million Czech ⁢crowns‍ (approximately $215,000 USD) for the base ‍model and positions the ⁣XM as the dominant force in a⁤ segment populated by ⁢ultra-luxury brands.

The ⁤XM’s sales advantage ⁢isn’t necessarily driven by worldwide acclaim for ‍its styling, but rather ‌by its comparatively ‍accessible⁢ price within the⁤ “Über SUV” category. Competitors like the Lamborghini Urus (5,600 units sold), Ferrari Purosangue (2,250 units), ⁤Aston Martin DBX (2,050 units), ‌and Chinese newcomer Mhero⁣ 917 (1,200 units) all carry ⁤substantially higher price tags – the Purosangue starting ⁤around 10 million ⁤crowns. This price difference⁣ allows the XM to capture a larger⁤ volume of sales, solidifying⁢ its position as‌ the segment leader.

The ranking of the top five best-selling models ⁢is as follows:

  1. BMW ‍XM – 8,100 units (14% year-over-year change)
  2. Lamborghini Urus ‌- 5,600 ⁤units (6% year-over-year change)
  3. Ferrari ‍Purosangue – 2,250 units⁣ (840% year-over-year change)
  4. Aston⁤ Martin DBX – 2,050 units (-24% year-over-year change)
  5. Mhero 917 – 1,200 units (107% year-over-year change)

While ‌some industry observers note the absence of ⁤models like the‌ Audi RS Q8, BMW X5/X6 M, Mercedes-AMG GLS 63, and ‍Range Rover Sport from this‍ ranking, the data focuses specifically on vehicles marketed as dedicated “sports cars” within the‌ high-performance ⁢SUV segment, excluding more conventional performance ‌variants.Due to⁣ its sales success, BMW does not currently foresee a direct successor to the ‍XM.
