Berlin, Germany - Kenyan runners Sebastian Sawe and Rosemary Wanjiru emerged victorious at the 2023 BMW BERLIN-MARATHON, despite warm temperatures reaching up to 25 degrees Celsius. Sawe claimed first place with a world-leading time of 2:02:16, followed by Akira Akasaki (JPN, 2:06:15) and Chimdessa Debele (ETH, 2:06:57). Wanjiru narrowly defeated Dera Dida (ETH, 2:21:08) with a time of 2:21:05, while Azmera Gebru (ETH, 2:21:29) secured third.
The race also marked the debut of the all-electric BMW iX3 50 xDrive as the lead vehicle. BMW highlighted the iX3’s capabilities, including a range of up to 805 kilometers (WLTP) and a maximum charging rate of 400 kW, allowing for an additional 372 km (231 miles) of range in just 10 minutes.

Approximately 550 BMW Group employees participated in the marathon, which drew runners from 160 nations and included handbike and wheelchair competitions.
