BMW BERLIN-MARATHON: Sawe Sets World Record, iX3 Debuts

Berlin, Germany -​ Kenyan runners Sebastian Sawe and Rosemary Wanjiru emerged victorious ‌at the 2023 BMW BERLIN-MARATHON,⁢ despite ‍warm temperatures⁣ reaching⁢ up to 25 degrees Celsius.⁢ Sawe claimed first place with a world-leading time of ​2:02:16, followed​ by Akira‌ Akasaki (JPN, 2:06:15) and Chimdessa‍ Debele (ETH, 2:06:57). Wanjiru narrowly ‍defeated Dera Dida (ETH, 2:21:08) with a time of 2:21:05, while Azmera Gebru (ETH, 2:21:29) secured third.

The race also marked the debut of the ‌all-electric BMW iX3 50 ‍xDrive as the lead ⁣vehicle.⁢ BMW ⁤highlighted the ⁣iX3’s⁢ capabilities, ‌including a⁣ range of up⁣ to 805 kilometers (WLTP) and a maximum ⁣charging rate of ‍400 kW, allowing for ‍an additional 372 km (231 miles) of⁣ range in just 10 ⁣minutes.

On behalf of ​BMW, ​I would also like to ⁤congratulate all the participants on the magnificent achievement of completing this distance,” said Christian Ach, Head of BMW‍ Deutschland.

Approximately 550 BMW Group employees​ participated in the marathon, which drew ​runners from 160 nations and included ‌handbike and wheelchair competitions.
