Binghamton University Celebrates homecoming with Athletic Hall of Fame & Alumni Weekend
VESTAL, N.Y. – Binghamton University’s campus buzzed with Bearcat spirit this weekend as the Division of Athletics joined in the annual Homecoming festivities, hosting a series of events from Friday through Sunday. The weekend was a resounding success,celebrating athletic achievements,welcoming back alumni,and showcasing current Bearcat teams in action.
A highlight of the weekend was Saturday’s Hall of Fame induction ceremony. This year’s class honored Jessica hennig (Track & Field, 2013), Nick Billings (Men’s Basketball, 2005), Gary Boughter (Men’s Soccer, 1977), and the remarkable 1995 Women’s Volleyball team. The ceremony followed a welcome reception for returning alumni on friday evening.
Competition was also front and center, with the Men’s Soccer team drawing an impressive crowd of 1,009 fans to the Bearcats Sports Complex for their Homecoming match against New Hampshire on Saturday. baseball and Softball teams also participated in fall ball games on Sunday, providing a glimpse of the upcoming seasons.
Beyond competitive play, the weekend fostered a strong sense of community. Alumni games were held for both the Men’s and Women’s Lacrosse teams, and also the Softball program. The Athletics Department also maintained a presence at the university’s Fall Festival, warmly greeting Bearcat and Colonial alumni alike.
“It is indeed always awesome to see our alumni return to campus and enjoying their time with classmates, teammates, professors and coaches,” said Director of Athletics Gene Marshall. “This weekend was no different. Binghamton University Athletics has been built on the shoulders of these very talented and successful individuals, who laid a solid foundation for our current success academically, athletically, socially and in the community.”
