The venue, located at 118 S 15th Street, offers a range of VR games and is preparing to launch a new adventure, “Time Mission,” this fall.
While currently geared towards older audiences, Sandbox VR aims to expand its appeal to families. Currently, no age restriction exists, but minors require adult supervision. According to Sandbox VR representative Sarah Stec, the existing equipment and game content are best suited for teenagers and adults due to the bulkiness of the gear and the complexity of the games. Stec indicated plans to introduce more family-friendly options in the near future.
“We’re actively working on additions that will make Sandbox VR more accessible and enjoyable for younger players,” Stec stated. “The current setup, while exciting, isn’t always ideal for smaller children.”
Sandbox VR is part of a growing trend of location-based entertainment venues seeking to revitalize urban areas post-pandemic. Similar concepts recently opened in Philadelphia include F1 Arcade, a virtual reality racing simulator at 225 Vine Street; Flight Club, a social darts experience at 140 N Columbus Blvd; and various escape room establishments, such as Beat the Bomb, with a Philadelphia location at 118 Market Street.

The upcoming “time Mission” experience will feature team-based challenges across 25 virtual portals representing different eras. Stec anticipates the launch of “Time Mission” between late September and early October. The venue currently offers titles like “Curse of the lost Lagoon,” “uncharted,” and “Star Trek: Discovery.”
