Bigfoot Emoji Coming to Unicode Standard: New Emojis Revealed

Bigfoot-like Creature Emoji Coming to Unicode 17.0 This Fall

The Unicode Consortium has announced the addition of a “Hairy Creatureemoji, widely interpreted as Bigfoot, to the official Unicode standard with the release of Unicode 17.0 this autumn. This new emoji joins a slate of othre additions designed to expand digital interaction.

The decision to include a broadly defined “Hairy Creature” rather than a specific regional name like Bigfoot reflects Unicode’s commitment to global inclusivity. This approach allows the emoji to represent various cryptids and folklore figures worldwide, such as the yowie, yeti, nuk-luk, hibagon, orang pendek, and almas, depending on cultural context.

Along with the “Hairy Creature,” Unicode 17.0 will introduce the following new emojis:

  • trombone
  • Treasure chest
  • Distorted Face
  • Fight Cloud
  • Apple Core
  • Orca
  • Ballet Dancers

Unicode 17.0 is scheduled for release on September 9, 2025. However, users can expect these new emojis to become available on platforms like Android and iOS some time after the standard’s official update. In the interim, users can explore custom emoji creation through tools like Genmoji and Emoji Kitchen.
