Pathum Thani, Thailand – In response to a important influenza outbreak, teh Pathum Thani Provincial Administrative Institution (PAO) has initiated a free vaccination program targeting high-risk groups. The initiative aims to curb the spread of the virus and mitigate potential complications.
Influenza Outbreak in Pathum Thani
Health officials in Pathum Thani Province are grappling with a notable increase in influenza cases. From January 1 to February 28, 2025, the province recorded 3,872 influenza patients, translating to a rate of 328.24 per 100,000 people. This places Pathum Thani as the 14th highest in the country and second within Health Zone 4.
According to a statement from the Police Lieutenant Colonel President of the Pathum Thani Provincial Administrative Organization,
the number of patients in 2025 is higher than the five-year average and the figures from 2024.This indicates a persistent battle against the epidemic in Pathum Thani,mirroring the broader influenza situation in Thailand.
Free Vaccination Initiative
Recognizing the severity of the situation, the Pathum Thani PAO is prioritizing the health of its residents by offering free four-strain influenza vaccinations to 300,000 individuals in high-risk categories. This proactive measure aims to provide easy access to preventative care, reducing the burden on the healthcare system.
The PAO emphasizes that vaccination is the best way to prevent influenza, which will help reduce the severity of the disease, reduce the chances of complications, and reduce the spread of infection to those around.
Vaccination Service Details
The vaccination program is being implemented by the Public Health Division of the Pathum Thani PAO, in collaboration with Tambon Health Promotion Hospitals and the Chaloem Phrakiat 60th anniversary Health Center, Nawaminch Queen. Sub-district health promotion hospitals under the Ministry of Public Health are also participating in the effort.
Services are available from May 1-30.
Eligibility Criteria:
- Must be a Thai national.
- Must be a resident of Pathum Thani Province.
- Must belong to one of the nine identified risk groups.
Identified Risk Groups:
- Children aged 6 months to 2 years.
- Individuals with chronic conditions: chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), asthma, stroke, kidney failure, cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy, and diabetes.
- People aged 65 years and over.
- Individuals with brain disabilities who cannot assist themselves.
- Those with thalassemia and immune deficiencies, including HIV-infected individuals with symptoms.
- Individuals with obesity (weight > 100 kilograms or BMI > 35 kilograms per square meter).
- people aged 2-24 years.
- Medical personnel, Village Public Health Volunteers, and page personnel.
- Vulnerable groups: disabled individuals, underprivileged individuals in prevention centers, observation and protection centers for children and youth, and staff caring for these groups.
Required Documentation:
- National ID card.
- Copy of birth certificate (for children aged 6 months to 7 years) and the parent’s national ID card.
