Bernarda Deufel would like to be captain of a barge on the Rhine – Freiburg

Bernarda Deufel is head of the self-help office in Freiburg/Breisgau-Hochschwarzwald. This time she filled out the BZ questionnaire.

Networking is one of her most important tasks, says Bernarda Deufel, head of the self-help office in Freiburg/Breisgau-Hochschwarzwald. Deufel comes from the Swabian Alb, she is a trained medical assistant and studied social work at the Catholic University in Freiburg. Since 1993 she has worked in the self-help office of the Parittisches Wohlfahrtsverband. Deufel has a son and lives in Wiehre.

What exactly does the self-help office do?
We put people in contact who are looking for a self-help group, and we also help if someone wants to set up a group on a specific topic themselves. We also support existing groups, even if they want to organize something bigger, like the Freiburg Friends of the Theater with a theater performance.

How can you help start a new support group?
We go public as an official body and can thus protect the anonymity of the founder. We do the public relations work and print flyers, for example, but we also accompany the group at first. Regardless of the topic, very different people with very different expectations usually come together. We help to make sure it works anyway.
