Berlin Faces Extended Recovery After Sabotage Causes 60-Hour Blackout
Berlin,September 9,2025 – Parts of Berlin endured a prolonged blackout lasting up to 60 hours following a intentional act of sabotage targeting the city’s power infrastructure. While electricity has been largely restored, full recovery is expected to take months, impacting residents, businesses, and critical services across the Treptow-Köpenick district and beyond.
Six S-bahn lines experienced interruptions, and disruptions extended to supermarkets, schools, companies, and nursing homes, requiring the temporary relocation of patients to neighboring hospitals. The incident underscores vulnerabilities in critical infrastructure and raises concerns about the growing threat of politically motivated attacks.
Authorities attribute the blackout to a coordinated assault claimed by an anarchist group via the Indymedia International Network. The group stated their intention was to strike the military-industrial complex located in the Adlershof park, specifically targeting sectors involved in artificial and defense intelligence, robotics, IT, aerospace, and nanotechnology.
The activists acknowledged causing danni (damage) to citizens and offered an apology, asserting that the inconveniences were an acceptable consequence of disrupting these targeted sectors.
The extensive area affected contributed to a staggered restoration of power, with some locations experiencing longer outages than others. Investigations are ongoing, and authorities have not released details regarding the specific methods used in the sabotage.
