Belgian Video Game Market Declines: Digital Sales Rise, Mobile Games Thrive (2025)
The Belgian video game market experienced a slight decline in 2025, with total revenue reaching €646 million, down from €698 million the previous year, according to the Video Games Federation Belgium (VGFB).
The decrease is primarily attributed to a drop in full-price physical game and accessory sales, which now account for only 25 percent of the market. Digital downloads comprise the remaining 75 percent, demonstrating a continued shift in consumer preference.
The closure of all Game Mania stores at the end of 2024 likely had a significant impact on physical sales, particularly in Flanders. Despite this downturn in physical sales, digital game sales for consoles and PCs saw a modest 1 percent increase compared to 2024, representing 38 percent of total revenue. This category includes digital downloads of full games, in-game purchases, downloadable content, and subscription services.
Mobile gaming remained a strong performer, with 148 million downloads and a 26 percent share of total revenue – a 3 percent increase. Roblox emerged as a prominent title, ranking second in both downloads and profitability on mobile platforms. It also proved popular on consoles and PCs, securing third place in playtime.
Combined sales of video game accessories and consoles remained stable at 25 percent of total revenue. A total of 675,891 console and PC accessories and 253,466 consoles were sold. The Nintendo Switch 2 quickly rose to second place among best-selling consoles, surpassing the original Switch, while the PlayStation 5 maintained its top position from the previous year.
Fortnite was the most played game on consoles and PCs, followed by Call of Duty HQ and Roblox. The best-selling console games were all developed by Electronic Arts: EA SPORTS FC 26, EA SPORTS FC 25, and Battlefield 6. The latter also topped the PC sales charts.
League of Legends and Grand Theft Auto V dominated international streaming lists. Notably, the VGFB report did not include sales figures from Belgian studio Larian Studios, the creators of the popular game Baldur’s Gate 3. In-game advertising revenue, merchandise sales, PC hardware sales, and the global revenue of Belgian video game companies were also excluded from the report.
