BBC Faces Scrutiny Over Glastonbury Controversy and BBC’s Response to Bob Vylan

Bob Vylan‘s recent Glastonbury performance has ignited a firestorm of controversy, leading to important professional repercussions for the duo. While some artists have rallied in support, others have distanced themselves, and the band has faced cancelled shows and revoked visas.

The controversy stems from a chant during Bob Vylan’s Glastonbury set. although police recently confirmed they had dropped their inquiry into the matter, the fallout has been significant.

Support for Bob Vylan has come from artists like Lambrini Girls, Amyl And The Sniffers, and Soft Play. Soft Play, in particular, voiced their solidarity, suggesting the media’s focus on the Glastonbury incident was a diversion from the ongoing situation in Palestine. They stated, “Again, the media is trying to distract you from the real story. The outrage sparked […] is merely a smoke screen for the lack of reporting on the destruction of the Palestinian people. They are starving children, where is the media’s outrage at Israel’s continued obliteration of a whole nation?”

Conversely, the band has experienced a series of cancellations and severed professional ties. Shows in Germany and France have been cancelled, their agents have reportedly cut ties, their US visas have been revoked, and they will no longer be supporting Gogol Bordello on their upcoming European tour.

In their first performance since Glastonbury, at London’s The 100 Club earlier this month, Bob Vylan addressed the ongoing situation. When a segment of the crowd attempted to revive the “death to the IDF” chant, frontman Bobby Vylan intervened. Footage captured by *The Standard* shows Vylan pointing to the chanting fans and stating, “No no no no no, you’re gonna get me in trouble. Apparently, every other chant is fine, but you lot will get me in trouble.” He then redirected the crowd’s energy into a chant of “Free, free Palestine.”
