Bayreuth Handball: Relegation Confirmed Despite Late Win
HaSpo Bayreuth’s Regionalliga handball team will face SV München Laim in their final match of the season on Saturday, despite already securing a third-to-last position in the Bavarian league, effectively confirming their relegation.
The team’s fate was sealed following a 22:14 victory over FC Bayern München on March 21, 2026, a result that, while decisive on the scoreboard, only served to solidify their standing in the league table. According to sources within the club, a significant factor contributing to the team’s struggles this season was a prolonged period of personnel shortages.
Despite the recent win, HaSpo Bayreuth’s overall record in the 2025/26 season stands at 3 wins, 3 draws, and 15 losses, totaling 9 points. This places them tenth in the league, well behind the safety of eighth-place MTV Stadeln, who have 20 points. TSV EBE Forst United currently leads the league with 35 points, followed by TSV Schwabmünchen with 34.
On March 14, 2026, HaSpo Bayreuth played MTV Stadeln, losing 27-26. Also on that date, HaSpo Bayreuth defeated HC Sulzb.Rosenb. 20-20, and ESV 27 Regensbg. II defeated HT München 26-23. The following day, March 15, 2026, TSV Herrsching lost to TSV Schwabmünchen 21-22, and TSV Vaterstetten defeated TSV EBE Forst United 29-26.
The club recently announced a new Erima merchandise collection and is encouraging fans to vote for the team as “Mannschaft des Jahres” (Team of the Year). The team’s next home match will be against HC Bamberg, though the date has not yet been announced.
HaSpo Bayreuth’s youth teams also saw action on March 21, 2026, with the men’s A-Jugend defeating HC Forchheim 41-28, and the women’s II team losing to TSV Weitramsdorf 15-36. The men’s D teams also played, with HaSpo Bayreuth facing HSV Hochfranken and losing 30-41.
