Barcelona Eyeing Benfica’s Andreas Schjelderup: Player Reacts to Transfer Interest
Barcelona winger Andreas Schjelderup has expressed enthusiasm about the possibility of a transfer to the Catalan club, amid ongoing assessments of potential reinforcements for Hansi Flick’s squad.
The 21-year-old Benfica player reacted to reports linking him with a move to Barcelona, telling Danish television channel TV2, “I did not know,” when asked about the reported interest. However, he quickly added, “It would be fantastic if We see true.”
Schjelderup’s comments come as Barcelona evaluate options to bolster their attacking line, with the club currently considering whether to exercise the €30 million purchase option for Marcus Rashford, who is currently on loan from Manchester United. Rashford joined Barcelona in July 2025, with the agreement including the option for a permanent transfer next summer, according to multiple reports.
Barcelona’s interest in Schjelderup is not isolated. The club is similarly reportedly monitoring Chelsea’s Pedro Neto as another potential target. Schjelderup has recorded seven goals and four assists in 36 appearances this season for Benfica, raising his market value to approximately €20 million.
However, Benfica are known for their firm stance in negotiations and often demand significant fees for their players, suggesting any deal for Schjelderup could exceed the current valuation. Barcelona completed the loan signing of Rashford in July 2025, with the English striker becoming part of Hansi Flick’s squad, as confirmed by the club.
Rashford, who spent the second half of the 2024/25 campaign on loan at Aston Villa under Unai Emery, made 17 appearances and scored four goals while creating five assists. He has spoken of feeling “at home” at Barcelona, describing it as a club where “dreams come true.”
