Berlin, Germany – The neuköllner Oper Berlin (NO) is hosting the Berlin Festival for Contemporary Music Theater – BAM! – this november, spotlighting self-reliant music theatre’s response to rapid global change and featuring Poland as its guest country.
This year’s festival centers around the question: “Where do we go from here?” exploring how the independent scene navigates societal shifts and the innovative forms emerging in response. Poland’s prominent role acknowledges its history of contributing decisive impulses to the international avant-garde. The NO will serve as the festival’s primary venue, presenting a series of performances and discussions.
The festival opens on 20 November at NO with the concert Ep for a deaf Poet and Double Bass, followed by the world premiere of Ludmilla Mercier and Jakob Böttcher’s LAVOMATIK. A double bill featuring INNER MONOLOGUE and MISSPIECE will be presented on 21 November. On 22 November, a panel discussion titled YOUNG MUSIC THEATRE FROM POLAND will convene theatre makers to discuss current trends and their connection to Polish theatrical traditions. This will be followed by a conversation addressing the festival’s central theme: WHERE DO WE GO FROM HERE?
