Herscheid, Germany – The BC Herscheid badminton club experienced a successful weekend, securing crucial victories for both its first and third teams. The third team solidified its position as a strong contender in the Bezirksklasse, while the first team achieved a hard-fought win in the Verbandsliga, bolstering their efforts to avoid relegation.
On Saturday evening, February 21st, the BC Herscheid’s third team defeated Iserlohner TS with a decisive 6-2 score. The team demonstrated strong performance across all disciplines, securing victories in the doubles matches. Christian Flori and Niklas Müller overcame an initial setback, winning their match 17-21, 22-20, 21-17. René Boueke, paired with substitute Artur Ksinsik – who stepped in for the ill Jan-Simon Claus – dominated their opponents with a score of 21-6 and 21-9. Jennifer Fischer and Marie-Kristin Torbow further extended the lead with a 21-16, 21-17 win in the women’s doubles.
The singles matches also contributed to the team’s success, with Flori and Boueke securing additional points. Niklas Müller, typically a mixed doubles player, made his singles debut, displaying a determined performance despite a loss. Marie-Kristin Torbow also faced defeat in her singles match. The final point was secured by Fischer and Ksinsik in a closely contested mixed doubles match, winning 21-13, 19-21, 21-16.
The first team faced a more challenging contest on Sunday against TuS Friedrichsdorf, a team recently strengthened for the Rückrunde (second half of the season). After more than four hours of play, Herscheid emerged with a 5-3 victory, distancing themselves from the lower end of the Verbandsliga table.
The match began with a loss for Pascal Galleinus and Rainer Cazzato in the first men’s doubles, 14-21. Though, they rallied to win the subsequent games and secure a point for Herscheid. Andre Weckwerth and Jonas Lebus faced a tough battle in the second men’s doubles, ultimately losing 16-21 and 21-23. Lea Lebus and Sally Gleim secured a win in the women’s doubles, prevailing 22-20 and 21-16 after a tight first game.
The singles matches proved particularly competitive. Galleinus lost a close first singles match 21-17, 17-21, 25-27, while Weckwerth also narrowly missed victory, losing 21-13, 15-21, 23-25. These losses gave Friedrichsdorf a 3-2 lead. Cazzato managed to regain momentum for Herscheid with a three-set win in the third singles match, 18-21, 21-15, 21-19. Lea Lebus then secured a crucial point with a decisive win in the women’s singles.
The fate of the match rested on the mixed doubles pairing of Jonas Lebus and Sally Gleim. They delivered a hard-fought victory, winning 25-27, 21-18, 22-20, securing the overall 5-3 win for BC Herscheid.
The first team is scheduled to play a double-header in two weeks, facing Hövelhof 3 and the already-promoted Hövelhof 2.
