Australian MMA Fighter Suman Mokhtarian killed in Suspected Targeted Attack
Riverstone, Australia – Former UFC fighter Suman Mokhtarian has died following an incident Wednesday evening in Riverstone, a suburb of Sydney, Australia.Emergency services responded to a call near the intersection of Annaluke Street and Riverbrae Avenue around 6:00 PM local time, but despite their efforts, Mokhtarian was pronounced dead at the scene.
Local police are investigating the death as a purposeful attack, according to Riverstone Police Chief Jason Joyce. “We believe he was out for a walk, although this has not yet been confirmed,” Joyce stated.”You’d like to think you can feel safe in a district like this, but we believe this was a targeted incident.” He added, “It must have been horrific, and it’s certainly not something we tolerate in our community.”
The inquiry is focusing on potential links to a shooting at the Australian top team gym in February of last year, where Mokhtarian was reportedly the intended target. He survived that attack and subsequently cancelled a planned MMA gala due to fears of further violence.
Mokhtarian,a featherweight fighter, concluded his professional MMA career with a record of 8 wins and 2 losses. He last competed in the UFC six years ago, suffering a unanimous decision loss to Choi Seung-Woo.
Authorities are appealing for any witnesses to the incident to come forward as the investigation continues. This is a developing story and will be updated as more information becomes available.
