KINGSTON, N.Y. (September 25, 2025) ⁢- Civil rights attorney Ben ‌Crump has been⁢ retained to represent Alonzo Jordan Jr., a 26-year-old Black man who was arrested by New York State police following an investigation stemming from ⁢an anonymous CyberTip report. despite a lack of direct evidence, Jordan was the sole arrestee in connection with the report, which traced illicit material to an IP address associated with his building.

On April 16, 2025, ⁤Jordan⁤ was taken into custody after law enforcement focused on the four-unit ⁢building where he resided, utilizing a shared internet connection. authorities ‌reportedly found no electronic evidence directly linking Jordan to‍ the alleged illicit material. He was, however, the only Black tenant in the building.

The New York state Police afterward issued a press release identifying Jordan, leading to what his ⁤legal team describes as significant public humiliation, job loss, and emotional distress. The charges against⁢ Jordan were dismissed on July ⁣1, 2025, after 75⁢ days, but not before substantial damage to his reputation⁤ and financial well-being.

A Notice of Claim and a Notice of Intention to make a claim against the State of ‍New York have been filed, preserving Jordan’s right to pursue legal action.

“alonzo Jordan Jr. was ⁣wrongfully arrested, publicly shamed, and forced to live under the weight of⁤ a false and devastating accusation,” said Attorney Crump. “There was no evidence linking him ‌to this crime. Just a shared IP address and a rush to judgment that appeared⁣ to target the only Black tenant in the building. We will fight to hold those responsible accountable and ensure that Alonzo gets justice for this terrible and preventable situation.”

Crump is working alongside‍ Andrew Finkelstein, Managing‍ Partner of Finkelstein & ⁢Partners and President of the New York State ⁢Trial ‌Lawyers Association, on the case.

This case highlights ongoing concerns about potential racial bias in law enforcement investigations and the devastating consequences of false accusations, especially in the digital age where shared internet access can lead to misidentification.Ben⁣ Crump Law has a long⁣ history of ‌representing individuals impacted‍ by civil rights violations and seeking accountability from those in power.
