Photostop: Reinventing the photo Booth Experience in Ghent and Bruges
Photostop,a new venture bringing a modern twist to the classic photo booth,has quickly gained traction in Belgium. The concept, inspired by similar setups in Thailand and Paris, offers unmanned photo booths equipped with digital payment options and fun accessories. The first location opened earlier this year in Mageleinstraat, Ghent, featuring two photo booths.
Ghent: A QR Code Start
The Ghent location initially relied solely on QR codes for access and payment. Visitors could open the door and operate the photo booth independently using their smartphones. Though, the founders soon realized that not everyone was comfortable with this technology.
Bruges: Adapting to Customer Needs
To address the issue of QR code unfamiliarity, the owners adapted their approach for the Bruges location.While remaining unmanned, the Bruges Photostop added tablets for payment. In Ghent we noticed that not everyone was familiar with the QR codes,
says the entrepreneur. That is why we have decided to provide tablets in Bruges, so that everyone gets the chance to pay.
Accessorize and Smile (Under Surveillance)
Both locations offer a variety of accessories to enhance the photo booth experience. From quirky sunglasses to colorful hats,visitors can borrow items to add personality to their photos. Inside the red photo room, a camera captures three photos from above, with a four-second interval between each shot. To prevent theft, camera surveillance is in place.

Inspiration from Abroad
The idea for Photostop came to the couple after a trip to Thailand, where photo booths are a common sight. Seeing their popularity there, and in cities like Paris, inspired them to bring the concept to Belgium. Ghent and Bruges were strategic choices for their initial locations.
We live in Ghent, so open our first case, we seemed obvious.my girlfriend comes from around ‘t Brugse and a second case here also seemed logical. In Ghent the concept is successful and that is why we did not hesitate for a sequel.

Expansion Plans
Currently, the bruges location has two photo booths.Photostop is open daily from 10:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. Future expansion is planned.
