Artemis 2: Everything to Know About NASA’s Historic Lunar Flyby
NASA’s Artemis II crew is preparing for a lunar flyby scheduled for Monday, April 6, 2026.
Currently on Flight Day 5, the astronauts have completed demonstrations of their suits and are finalizing preparations for the maneuver. The mission is on course to set a new distance record for humans in space as the crew travels toward the moon.
The flight path will allow the crew to view portions of the lunar surface that no human has previously seen. This includes the far side of the moon, with the mission marking the first time in more than 50 years that such a journey has been broadcast live.
To support the transmission of high-resolution data, NASA is employing a laser communications system. This technology is currently beaming 4K video from the moon, enabling the delivery of detailed imagery from the mission.
The lunar flyby event is scheduled to be available via live stream.
