Arizona weather forecast: Showers, dust storm arrive in the Phoenix area on Labor Day

Phoenix, AZ – A swift-moving ​storm system brought showers, dust, ⁢and the threat of flash flooding to the Phoenix area on Labor ‍Day, prompting ⁣safety reminders from the Glendale​ Fire Department. residents are bracing for potentially hazardous conditions⁣ as the monsoon season continues.

The National Weather Service reported the arrival ⁢of the storm,which poses risks from strong winds and⁢ heavy rainfall. Captain Ashley Losch of the Glendale Fire Department emphasized the potential for service disruptions, including water, power,⁣ and ‍gas⁤ outages. “Most Valley residents know how quickly and furiously‍ storms ⁤can move in ‌and out, bringing strong winds, dust, rain, and ⁢flash flooding,” she stated. ⁤

To prepare⁤ for these conditions,GFD advises residents to: ⁣identify a safe room ​- an ⁣interior space free of windows,skylights,and glass doors; keep flashlights with extra batteries readily available; stock non-perishable‌ food requiring no cooking or refrigeration; maintain a⁢ supply of at least one ⁤gallon of clean water per person; ensure backup power ⁢for‌ essential medical devices; have a means ‍to charge cell phones; and keep a first aid kit ⁣accessible. ​

Authorities also warn against driving through flooded areas – as little as 10 ​inches of water can sweep a vehicle away – and ⁢avoiding ‌washes altogether. If rising waters ‍threaten, ‌residents should seek higher ground. Downed power lines are also a serious⁣ hazard, ⁢with the potential to energize the ground up to 200 feet.residents are urged to keep pets indoors during‌ the ⁢storm.
