Texas QB Arch Manning Reprimanded for Festivity After Touchdown vs. Sam Houston State
HUNTSVILLE,TX – September 21,2025 - Texas quarterback Arch Manning received a post-touchdown scolding from both a referee and his mother,Ellen manning, after a celebratory gesture directed at a Sam Houston State defender during the Longhorns’ 55-0 victory on Saturday.
Manning scored a touchdown and appeared to taunt Sam Houston State linebacker Tristian Fish. The moment was captured on video and quickly went viral on social media.
“Yeah, (it) felt good to get back in the end zone,” Manning saeid postgame, according to Horns247. ”Probably a little much there. My mom was pretty mad about that. Little immature, but I think its some built-up frustration (from) the past few weeks.”
Manning described being “so scared” when the referee approached him and “ripped my ass” for the behavior. He stated he apologized to the official, who did not assess a penalty, and did not speak with Fish.
The incident followed a tackle by Fish on manning during Texas’ first drive, where Fish appeared to look at the quarterback as he walked away.
Manning had been facing scrutiny after struggling in the season’s first three games. He threw for 65 of 106 passes for 888 yards, nine touchdowns, and three interceptions entering Saturday’s game. He had previously struggled with accuracy against Ohio State and UTEP.
Texas will face Florida next week. Florida quarterback DJ Lagway, also a highly-rated recruit, has also experienced early-season struggles, completing 83 of 123 passes for 690 yards, five touchdowns, and six interceptions.
“I felt good,” Manning said of his performance Saturday. ”I wish I could have done that the past four weeks. But, you know, I’m glad we did it tonight.I thought that the team played really well. Got the ball in my guys’ hands and let them go to work. So it felt good.”
