Arch Manning’s TD Taunt Sparks Controversy After Texas Victory

Texas QB​ Arch Manning Reprimanded for Festivity ⁢After Touchdown vs. Sam Houston State

HUNTSVILLE,TX – September ​21,2025 -‌ Texas quarterback Arch‍ Manning received a post-touchdown scolding from both a referee and his mother,Ellen manning,after a celebratory gesture directed at a Sam Houston State defender during the‌ Longhorns’ 55-0 victory on Saturday.

Manning⁣ scored ‌a touchdown and appeared ⁤to ‍taunt Sam Houston State linebacker Tristian Fish. The moment was captured⁢ on video ‍and quickly went viral on social media.

“Yeah,⁤ (it) felt good to get back in the end zone,” Manning saeid postgame, according to Horns247. ‍”Probably a⁤ little much there. ‌My mom was ⁤pretty ⁢mad about that. Little immature, but I think its some built-up‍ frustration (from) the‌ past few ​weeks.”

Manning described‍ being “so scared” when the referee ​approached him and⁤ “ripped my ass” for the behavior. He stated he apologized to the official,who did not⁢ assess ‌a ‌penalty,and did not‍ speak with Fish.

The incident followed a tackle by Fish on manning during Texas’ first drive, where ⁣Fish appeared to look ‍at the quarterback as he walked away.

Manning had ‍been⁤ facing scrutiny‍ after struggling in the season’s first ⁤three games. He threw for 65 of 106 passes for​ 888 yards, nine touchdowns, and three ​interceptions⁤ entering‌ Saturday’s game. He had​ previously struggled with accuracy against Ohio State ⁤and‌ UTEP.

Texas will‍ face Florida⁣ next⁤ week. Florida quarterback DJ Lagway,‍ also ‌a highly-rated recruit, has also ​experienced early-season struggles,‌ completing 83​ of 123 passes for 690 yards, five touchdowns,⁤ and six interceptions.

“I felt good,” Manning said of his performance Saturday. ‌”I ⁣wish I ⁢could have⁤ done⁢ that the past four weeks. But, ‌you know, I’m glad we did it⁤ tonight.I⁤ thought that the​ team played really well. Got the⁢ ball in ⁢my‌ guys’ hands and let them go‌ to work. So it felt good.”
