Apple Reorganizes Leadership as COO Jeff Williams Prepares to Retire
CUPERTINO, CALIFORNIA – October 10, 2025 – Apple is restructuring several divisions previously overseen by Chief Operating Officer Jeff Williams as he prepares for retirement at the end of the year, according to a new report from Bloomberg. The changes include folding the health adn fitness teams into the Services division and splitting oversight of the Apple Watch.
The reorganization reflects Apple’s evolving priorities and succession planning as Williams transitions out of his role. He announced his retirement plans in July, and the company has begun transferring responsibilities to new and existing leaders.This move also comes as Apple prepares to launch an AI-powered “health+” subscription service next year.
specifically, apple’s health and fitness teams will now report to Eddy Cue, Senior Vice President of Services. watchos software advancement will shift to Craig federighi, Senior Vice President of Software Engineering, who recently took charge of the Siri revamp. John Ternus, Senior Vice President of Hardware Engineering and a potential future CEO, will assume sole control of Apple Watch hardware engineering, a duty previously shared wiht Williams.
Since July, Williams has already transferred oversight of the company’s supply chain, operations, applecare customer support, and its work in China to Sabih Khan, Apple’s new operating chief.Day-to-day operations for the health and fitness teams have been assigned to Sumbul Desai, who will now report directly to Cue.
