Apple Pay Launches in India by 2026
Apple Pay will launch in India by the end of 2026, according to a report by business Standard.
The service requires regulatory approvals,but Apple reportedly collaborates with banks,regulators,adn card networks to introduce the payment service this year,sources say.
Upon launch, apple Pay will also offer Tap to Pay on iPhone, enabling contactless payments at point-of-sale terminals via NFC.However, Apple must frist negotiate fees with major card issuers for payment gateway usage.
UPI currently dominates digital payments in India, but sources indicate Apple will not pursue third-party application provider approval for that system in the near term. Last year, Cashfree Payments and Razorpay integrated Apple Pay to support international payments for Indian merchants.
Apple Pay launched more than 10 years ago and is available in 89 markets.
The timing is favorable for Apple in India. The company achieved its highest quarterly shipments in the country during Q3 2025,reaching 5 million units and securing fourth place in the market,according to IDC data.
