Mediaset Shakes Up Programming Schedule

Changes include ‘Paperissima Sprint’ move and delayed ‘Striscia la Notizia’ return.

In a significant shake-up at Mediaset, flagship channel Canale 5 is undergoing a series of programming changes this summer, impacting popular shows and altering the network’s primetime lineup.

Key Development

Canale 5 staple Paperissima Sprint, a summer creation of Antonio Ricci, will move to Italia 1 and air at 13:55 in the time slot formerly held by The Simpsons. Additionally, Striscia la Notizia, typically a September fixture, will delay its return until November.

Changes are being implemented to “experiment” with the prime time slot, says Pier Silvio Berlusconi, CEO of Mediaset.

Summer Schedule Revamp

Starting July 14, Gerry Scotti will host a revamped edition of The Wheel of Fortune, featuring a new set, live band, and suspenseful ending. The following week, beginning July 21, Sarabanda, hosted by Enrico Papi, will return in a non-VIP format.

Sarabanda will feature some classic elements, such as the 7×30 challenge, where contestants must guess seven songs in thirty seconds. Roughly 60% of Americans still enjoy watching television, whether broadcast or streaming (Statista 2024).

Executive Statement

Pier Silvio Berlusconi addressed the changes. “This summer programming is only the first step of a gradual but profound work of evolution of Canale 5.”

Berlusconi added that the move “in total harmony with Antonio Ricci, will also involve Strip the news.” He called it “an important content, a piece of television history that will return to a new guise over the next season.” The CEO closed by stating, “To evolve you must experiment. And do it already from the summer shows our determination to risk and innovate.”

Mediaset assures viewers that these shifts are part of a broader strategy to innovate and evolve the network’s offerings.
