Man Charged in Connection to Fatal London Explosion
Arrest in Stoke Newington Incident
A man has been charged with murder after a woman was found stabbed in a London home following a gas explosion. The incident occurred in Stoke Newington, northeast London, and has led to a charge of arson with intent to endanger life as well.
Clifton George, 44, appeared before Thames Magistrates’ Court on Monday. He only confirmed his personal details during the hearing.
Victim’s Identity and Family Grief
The victim, identified as Annabel Rook, 46, was discovered with fatal injuries at a property on Dumont Road just before 5 a.m. on Tuesday. Two children, aged seven and nine, were taken to the hospital as a precaution, though they were not inside the home when the explosion happened.
In a statement, Ms. Rook’s family expressed their immense sorrow: “We have lost our beautiful daughter, sister, friend and mother. Annabel was a truly wonderful woman. She touched the hearts of so many.”
“She gave her life to helping the vulnerable and the disadvantaged whether it was in refugee camps in Africa or setting up MamaSuze in London, to enhance the lives of survivors of forced displacement and gender-based violence.”

Community Impact and Ongoing Investigation
Annabel Rook co-founded MamaSuze, an arts-based organization assisting refugees and women. Prosecutor Cathryn Evans repeated a tribute, describing her as a “shining light” who dedicated her life to others. Studies show that community organizations like MamaSuze are increasingly vital for displaced persons and have grown by 15% in the last year (UNHCR Report).
George, who resides on Dumont Road, Stoke Newington, has been remanded in custody. He is scheduled to appear next at the Old Bailey on June 25.
