Android 17 for Xiaomi: Release Date, Eligible Devices & What to Expect
Google has scheduled its annual Google I/O developer conference for May 19-20, 2026, setting the stage for the anticipated rollout of Android 17 to Xiaomi devices. The timing, reported by Readers.id, provides a clear indication of when the update will begin to reach users, aligning with Xiaomi’s historical pattern of adopting Google’s latest technologies for its flagship phones.
Xiaomi has consistently been among the first manufacturers to integrate new Android features into its devices. The company typically mirrors Google’s global launch schedule for major updates. The upcoming Google I/O event is expected to serve as the launchpad for the initial Android 17 Beta program, a pattern observed with previous Android releases, such as the early access granted to the Xiaomi 15 series when Android 16 was introduced.
The Android 17 update process will unfold in two primary phases. The first, a Beta phase commencing in May 2026, will be available to select devices. This will be followed by a stable global release anticipated in the third or fourth quarter of 2026, coinciding with the launch of the latest HyperOS version.
Initial Android 17 Recipients
Following the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2026 in March, several Xiaomi devices have emerged as frontrunners for the initial Android 17 update. Xiaomi prioritizes its numbered series and “T” series phones for early access.
The expected first wave of devices to receive the update includes the Xiaomi 17, the Xiaomi 17 Ultra, and the Xiaomi 17T Pro. These devices will be instrumental in testing the stability of HyperOS 3.1, built on the Android 17 foundation. Current development efforts are focused on core performance optimization, internally codenamed “Vanilla Ice Cream,” with system efficiency as a key priority for Xiaomi this year.
While flagship devices will receive the initial update in May, Xiaomi intends to extend the rollout to over 70 additional phone models throughout 2026, encompassing a broader range of its Redmi and POCO series.
The Xiaomi 17 series is now compatible with both Apple’s Discover My and Google’s Android Find Hub, offering users enhanced device tracking capabilities. Xiaomi is also offering a $35 discount on select devices, with the Xiaomi 17 currently priced at $64.50, reduced from a marketing price of $99.50. Financing options include 0% APR for 12 months.
The POCO X6 Pro is confirmed to receive the Android 17 update, which will be delivered as HyperOS 4, according to a post on Reddit.
Google released Android 17 Beta 2 for Pixel devices on February 27, 2026, less than two weeks after the initial Beta release.
