Touré Challenges Allegations Following Sonko‘s Public Remarks
Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko recently brought renewed attention to a 2 billion FCFA embezzlement allegation during a rally at the Léopold Sédar Senghor stadium on November 8th. Speaking to supporters, Sonko referenced an IGE (State General Inspectorate) report implicating “allies of power,” specifically naming Aminata touré, the current High Representative of President Bassirou Diomaye Faye. he stated he had informed the President of the republic about the report.
Though, these accusations are not new, and Aminata Touré has previously and forcefully refuted them. As early as 2024, she publicly denounced the claims as ”political manipulation” designed to damage her reputation. “I am denouncing totally false information with the sole aim of undermining my reputation. I’m not afraid of this report. If we follow the law, no magistrate can prosecute me for anything,” touré stated at the time.
In a move described as unprecedented, Touré challenged the IGE to a public accounting. She called for a collective hearing, open to the press and public, involving herself and the two individuals who preceded and succeeded her as president of the Economic, Social and Environmental Council (CESE).”I request that all reports be declassified. Everyone would come with their accounting documents, in complete clarity, in front of the Senegalese,” she proposed.
nearly a year after issuing this challenge,no legal proceedings have been initiated against Touré,leading to speculation that the initial accusations lack substantial evidence.
