AMD Ryzen Threadripper 9000X Launch: Prices & Specs

Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) unveiled its new Ryzen threadripper 9000X processors on July 31, 2024, targeting high-performance computing enthusiasts. The series features three primary models, boasting up to 64 cores, and is positioned to offer significant speed capabilities at a more accessible price point than AMD’s professional Pro series.

The new processor lineup includes:

  • Ryzen Threadripper 9980X: 64 cores and 128 processing threads,priced at $4,999.
  • ryzen Threadripper 9970X: 32 cores and 64 processing threads, available for $2,499.
  • Ryzen Threadripper 9960X: 24 cores and 48 processing threads, costing $1,499.

These processors are designed for TRX50 motherboards, which support quad-channel memory and up to 92 PCIe lanes, while also enabling high-speed connectivity.

The pricing of these new models represents a notable reduction compared to their Pro counterparts. As an example, the Ryzen threadripper 9980X is approximately $3,000 less expensive than the 9985WX, despite offering the same core count. Similar price advantages are observed in the lower-tier models.

This strategic move by AMD aims to broaden access to high-performance computing for enthusiasts and content creators, contrasting with Intel’s current focus on workstation and professional markets.
