Chelsea Dominate Paris FC 4-0 in women’s Champions League, Thompson Shines
Chelsea secured a commanding 4-0 victory over Paris FC in their Women’s Champions League group stage match, fueled by a dominant performance and goals from Baltimore, Rytting Kaneryd, Thompson, and Cuthbert. The win consolidates Chelsea’s position in Group D.
Alyssa Thompson, the young American forward, continued to impress, contributing to chelsea’s attacking prowess. Chelsea’s victory was also marked by Lexi Potter making her debut for the club. This match is a crucial step in Chelsea’s campaign to advance from the group stage and contend for the Champions league title.
Chelsea took the lead after 30 minutes when Nüsken was fouled in the box, a decision confirmed by VAR. Baltimore converted the resulting penalty, scoring for the second consecutive week.Just before halftime, Thompson’s pace and a clever turn created space for a cross that Rytting kaneryd headed home, albeit seemingly surprised by the goal.
Thompson extended Chelsea’s lead promptly after the break with a close-range finish. Cuthbert then added a fourth,touching home a header from Sam Kerr on the line. Lexi Potter, a Cobham academy product and England youth international, was given a debut appearance as Chelsea comfortably closed out the match.
Chelsea will next face St Pölten in Austria next month.
Elsewhere in the Champions League, St Pölten defeated Vålerenga 3-0. Jule Brand opened the scoring with her first goal for the club, and Ada Hegerberg headed the hosts’ second just before half-time. Teenage midfielder Lily Yohannes completed the scoring with a brilliant lob from close to the halfway line.
Wolfsburg grabbed a late victory at Vålerenga thanks to Janina Minge’s penalty. The midfielder converted from the spot with the last kick of the game after Naina Inauen’s foul in the area. Wolfsburg took the lead through Lineth Beerensteyn in the 57th minute, but Sara Hørte headed home just three minutes later to level for the hosts in Oslo.
