Allahabad High Court Orders Contempt Action After Violent Lawyers Protest
Advocates threw furniture toward the dais and disrupted proceedings in an Allahabad High Court courtroom on Wednesday, prompting the bench to initiate contempt and disciplinary actions, thehindu.com reported.
Bail Application Interrupted by Corridor Slogans
Justice Arun Kumar Singh Deshwal was presiding over a bail application in Court No. 66 when noise and slogans from the adjoining corridor interrupted the session. The demonstrators were protesting the alleged mistreatment of a lawyer by Justice Ajay Bhanot. According to court observations, advocates entered the courtroom and hurled furniture toward the dais.
Litigants seeking judicial relief should not suffer because of disagreements between lawyers and a specific judge, the Bench noted. The court termed the conduct of the protesting advocates as wholly unjustified and contemptuous.
Court Orders CCTV Review to Identify Advocates
Justice Deshwal directed the Registrar of Protocol to secure CCTV footage from the camera installed outside Court No. 66. The protocol office must identify the advocates involved in the incident and submit a report by the next date of listing, thehindu.com reported.
Once the individuals are identified, the matter will be referred to the Bar Council of Uttar Pradesh. The referral instructs the council to initiate formal disciplinary proceedings alongside the court’s own contempt actions against the responsible parties.
Differing Reports on Property Damage
While the main proceedings centered on the disruption of the bail hearing and the direct threats to courtroom decorum, the reporting highlights specific physical actions taken during the escalation. The High Court bench emphasized the impact on ordinary litigants who rely on uninterrupted judicial processing for their legal remedies.
