Purdue Golf Unveils Pete Dye Clubhouse, Igniting National Aspirations
New Facility Spurs Recruiting and Event Hosting Capabilities
A thirty-year vision for Purdue’s golf program has culminated in the grand opening of the Pete Dye Clubhouse, a state-of-the-art facility poised to elevate the Birck-Boilermaker Golf Complex into a premier destination for collegiate and international tournaments.
A Vision Realized
The journey began three decades ago when golf legend Pete Dye collaborated with former Purdue athletics director Morgan Burke to reimagine the university’s North Course into the championship-level Kampen-Cosler layout. This was followed by a renovation of the South Golf Course, creating the challenging Ackerman-Allen course.
Despite boasting two top-tier courses, the program lacked a facility to match its aspirations. The missing piece was a modern clubhouse capable of hosting major events, a gap filled by a significant contribution from former Purdue golfer Sam Allen and his wife, Marsha.

Sam Allen‘s $25 million gift was instrumental, enabling infrastructure improvements and the realization of the clubhouse’s current prime location. In a display of deep respect for the legendary designer, Allen requested the facility be named in Dye’s honor.

Elevating the Student-Athlete Experience
The clubhouse boasts the upscale steakhouse, Boilerhouse Prime, managed by White Lodging, which has already garnered praise. This addition significantly enhances Purdue’s ability to host events and support its teams.
“We used to struggle to feed 75 people when they came here for tournaments, and it caused us coaches to have to focus on that in addition to our teams. Now we have a kitchen at Boilerhouse Prime, so it is no problem. It is a game changer.”
—Zach Byrd, Boilermakers’ Women’s Golf Coach
The new facility is expected to be a powerful recruiting tool, allowing coaches to showcase investment in the golf program. “We can show recruits what we’re investing in here,” explained Byrd. “There aren’t a lot of places in this current climate of college athletics that are investing in golf, but we can not only tell but show prospects that they can be a part of something special.”
Future Event Hosting Potential
The clubhouse’s arrival marks a pivotal moment, opening doors for high-profile national and international events. Purdue is already in discussions with the Western Golf Association regarding the Western Women’s Amateur.
The complex is now equipped to attract prestigious tournaments, a significant step towards hosting USGA or professional Tour events. “You’re going to have the best young players in the country on campus, and that couldn’t be a better recruiting tool,” Byrd added. “We may be in cold weather, but we have a golf facility that is as good as any.”
The university’s ability to host such events is further bolstered by ample parking near Ross-Ade Stadium, often available during the golf season. As noted by the National Golf Foundation, golf course development and associated facility upgrades can significantly boost local economies through increased tourism and event revenue. The new clubhouse positions Purdue to capitalize on this, with general manager Andy Elliott stating, “With the Pete Dye Clubhouse, all the pieces are in place here. We just can’t wait to see where it goes. It is going to be very special.”
