LiverpoolS attacking options have been further bolstered with the deadline-day arrival of Alexander Isak from Newcastle United. The Swedish international joins fellow summer signing Hugo Ekitike in Arne Slot’s squad, promising a fierce competition for places up front.
Ekitike has already made a significant impact at Anfield, netting an impressive three goals in his first four appearances before the current international break. He recently earned his first senior cap for France, adding to his burgeoning reputation.
Speaking about Isak’s transfer, the 23-year-old Ekitike expressed his enthusiasm. “it’s fun,” he stated. “When you play for the best teams, you expect to be competing with the best players. Isak is a player I’ve watched too, so seeing him arrive is a pleasure.”
Ekitike acknowledged the challenge ahead, adding, “It’s going to be tough competition, but I’m going to focus on performing well so that it’s a problem for the manager.” He’s determined to earn his place in the starting eleven through consistent performance.
The young forward also reflected on his transition to life at Liverpool following his move from Eintracht Frankfurt. “Obviously my life has changed,” Ekitike admitted. “It’s a big move and I’m watched a thousand times more, but I’m taking it positively, it’s really good. It’s the position I wanted to be in.”
He understands the high standards expected at a club like Liverpool. ”When you have this kind of standard, you have to show that you belong here and you have to continue to perform,” Ekitike concluded. “But it’s a position that I like and that I want to keep.”
