Dobrindt Warns‍ of Escalating Drone Activity as Security‌ Concerns Mount⁤ Across Northern Europe

Rostock, Germany ⁤- Following reports of multiple, coordinated drone flights over teh port of rostock and facilities of defense contractors, German politicians are sounding the alarm about potential security breaches and ‌escalating ⁣tensions in ‍Northern Europe. Alexander Dobrindt,⁢ a⁤ leading‍ figure in ⁤the Christian⁢ Social Union (CSU), ⁤characterized the‍ drone activity as a “warning signal,” demanding a complete investigation and bolstered‍ defenses.

The incidents, occurring as Poland prepares for a potential “crisis situation” following‌ repeated airspace violations and denmark recently closed airports due ⁣to similar intrusions, raise fears of purposeful probing of European defenses and potential ⁣escalation linked to the conflict in Ukraine. The German ‌Federal Police observed several⁣ large quadrocopters, each weighing over 2.5 kilograms, flying in a “coordinated and connected” manner ⁣over Rostock’s‌ Überseehafen on ⁤Monday, according to authorities cited by Der Spiegel.⁣

Adding to the concern, a defense ‌industry source revealed that a drone flew over⁤ the grounds of a major⁢ arms manufacturer two ‍days prior. While detected during its approach, the operator remains unidentified. The company, which produces critical air defense systems used by both the German⁤ military and Ukrainian forces, requested anonymity ⁢citing ⁢security concerns.Airbus Defence ⁤has also reported‌ prolonged drone overflights of its facilities,⁤ with authorities unable to compel the drones ‍to ⁣land, as disclosed by the⁢ company’s CEO in a ⁣recent interview with⁢ BILD.

The situation‍ is unfolding ahead of a crucial⁤ EU summit⁢ in Copenhagen, ⁢prompting ‍heightened security measures. Germany has deployed⁤ a drone defense unit and a warship to the ‍region. Denmark’s Transport⁣ Minister Thomas Danielsen stated that the recent airspace violations represent the most significant breach of Danish airspace since⁤ World War II. Poland has also reported multiple incursions of Russian drones into its⁢ airspace, including one that reached near Warsaw on the night of September 9-10.
