Aix-en-Provence’s Historic Leopold Brewery Reopens after Extensive Renovations
Aix-en-Provence, France – The Leopold brewery, a landmark establishment deeply woven into the social and political fabric of the city, has officially reopened its doors following months of meaningful renovation work.The reopening marks a revitalization of a beloved Aixois institution that has hosted a diverse range of prominent figures over the decades.
The brewery has long been a gathering place for political leaders, including former Aix-en-Provence mayors Jean-François Picheral (mayor from 1989-2001) and Maryse Joissains, and also Marseille’s former mayor, Jean-Claude Gaudin. The Leopold has also welcomed celebrated athletes such as footballers Jean-Pierre Papin and Marcel Desailly.
The reopening is particularly welcome following a period of closures in the area, including the Saint-Christophe Hotel, located in the same building, which shuttered its doors during the COVID-19 pandemic. The Leopold’s resurgence signals a positive trend for the hospitality sector in aix-en-Provence.
“This is good news. We always rejoice when an establishment reopens,” stated Mikaël Mendez, president of UMIH (Union of hotel professions and industries) of the Pays d’Aix. “Especially since it is a magnificent place, breweries as we no longer do. And we saw the rotunda, it’s hard to do better!“
The renovations focused on preserving the brewery’s historic character while updating its facilities to meet modern standards.
